Watching Hare — Sculpture of a Hare in Full Alertness

A second of total attention. Watching Hare is a sculpture of a hare in its most natural, everyday pose — sitting quietly, yet fully ready to leap. The head turned straight ahead, the gaze focused, the long ears swept back — as if he had just heard something in the grass and is listening intently. This is the portrait of an animal that lives on the edge between calm and flight: wild, free, always aware.

In European cultures, the hare has been for centuries a symbol of vigilance, cunning, vitality and rebirth. Its figure appeared in roadside shrines, on knightly coats of arms and in spring rituals. Even today, the hare remains one of the most beloved motifs in animal art — especially in English country chic, gothic glamour and dark academia aesthetics.

Every detail has been modelled with tenderness: the slender, elongated body with clearly defined muscles, the distinctive silhouette of the muzzle, the small paws resting on a small, oval, natural ground-base. The patina in shades of deep black with warm, copper-gold highlights gives the sculpture the look of antique bronze — as if the figure had come from a museum collection or been cast in the workshop of a 19th-century craftsman.

Watching Hare fits beautifully into dark academia, country chic, woodland, mythological, gothic glamour aesthetics, as well as modern, elegant interiors with an artistic accent. Perfect for a living room, study, library, bedroom, on a bookshelf, windowsill, sideboard or console. It also looks wonderful grouped with our Moongazing Hare (the seated hare looking at the moon) and Hare (the bust) — together the three form a coherent, artistic story about the wild world of fields and forests.

It is also a deeply moving gift — for a nature lover, for someone born in the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese calendar, for a fan of literature (from Adams's „Watership Down", through „Alice in Wonderland", to the tales of Beatrix Potter), for a spiritual person, for a mother, a grandmother, a partner, a friend — or for yourself. It also makes the perfect gift for Easter — in both Christian and pagan traditions, the hare symbolises rebirth and the new, springtime energy.

100% handmade — from the modelling of the figure, through the hand-finishing of the texture, to the layered application of the patina. Subtle differences in tone and texture ensure that your piece is one of a kind.
